Amor interruptus

Após a aventura de 14 anos chamada The White Stripes, desmultiplicações em outras bandas (The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather), colaborações com outros músicos (as veteranas Loretta Lynn e Wanda Jackson, Alicia Keys, Danger Mouse & Danielle Luppi, entre outros) e algumas edições avulso, Jack White vai solidificar a sua carreira a solo. Em Abril próximo é lançado o primeiro longa-duração, de seu nome "Blunderbuss". Já se pode ouvir o single de avanço, onde a sua voz apenas se faz acompanhar de guitarra e teclas. Será representativo do álbum? Enquanto não há resposta, vale a pena escutar esta amostra:

Quem tem seguido o percurso de Matthew Dear já reparou que este norte-americano é um explorador electrónico. O minimal, a música ambiente e a pop convergem nas suas andanças, envoltos num negrume que pouco tem de celebratório. Para o novo EP convidou o líder dos The Drums para cantar. Etta James R.I.P.

Etta James deixou-nos na passada sexta-feira. Senhora duma voz pujante, dum espírito rebelde e inconformado, teve a sua época de ouro durante os anos 60 e 70, no selo da famosa Chess Records. Foi uma das primeiras cantoras a fazer a ponte entre géneros, onde se destacam as suas interpretações no rythmn & blues, na soul, no jazz e no rock and roll, tornando-se assim uma figura influente nestes campos. Miss Peaches teve uma vida atribulada e nem sempre o reconhecimento lhe bateu à porta, mas as suas versões e composições têm e terão um enorme valor na história da música e na vida de muita gente. É por isso que será mormente recordada.

Caneleiras

Após um hiato de 4 anos, por entre projectos paralelos e mudanças de editora e alinhamento na banda, os The Shins dão sinal de vida. O sucessor do excelente "Wincing The Night Away" chama-se "Port of Morrow" e será lançado em Março próximo. O single de avanço não antevê mudança na sonoridade mas promete um bom leque de canções. 2011 - As Escolhas do Puto

2011: o ano da crise financeira internacional, do tsunami no Japão, das inundações no Brasil, das revoltas no Mundo Árabe, dos casamentos reais, dos desaparecimentos de Amy Winehouse, Gil Scott-Heron, Trish Keenan, John Barry, Cesária Évora, Poly Styrene, do divórcio de Kim Gordon e Thurston Moore, do fim dos R.E.M., LCD Soundsystem, The White Stripes, Grinderman e The Stills, do Grammy dos Arcade Fire, da marca dos 7 mil milhões de humanos, do último vôo do vai-vem espacial, da ocupação de Wall Street e de tantos outros acontecimentos. Foi ano de muitos discos, de bons filmes e várias sessões de bota-disquismo, onde a partilha, a amizade e a boa disposição imperam. 2011 também me fica marcado pelo primeiro concerto dos Screaming Jelly Babies, do iníco da minha colaboração com o jornal Voz de Santa Eulália e da rubrica "Uma música por dia", aqui no blog.
